Entry 15 - the final showdown on Grey Dragon Island

14 March : Enough time training; it’s time to get underway aboard the Japanese cruiser Kitakami , barely 4 years old. Fast enough to sail the 300 mile trip in almost 6 hours. Brady brings 40 recruits of his new China army under the pretense we are sailing to combat Russian insurgents. We approach Grey Dragon Island from the north observing empty beaches with the steaming volcano to the southwest. We circle the island westward looking for the Dark Mistress , found docked along a short pier on the south side. No movement; where is everyone? As we reconnoiter, it is James who queries, “You’ve got enough guns on this boat; just shell the damn island.” It’s Captain Isague who reminds all, “We have no idea what they are building nor where. We need YOU to get eyes on their construction.” With the recruits standing nearby, Norman remarks for their benefit, “Yeah, we gotta find out what those commie bastards are doing.” So the plan is set: we take a small land...

Entry 8 - Cairo: Arab attack at the mosque, a Dutchman with stolen scrolls, and trip to the Sphinx

Sunday Feb 8 th - morning began as a comical treat as Jame’s fake moustache kept falling into his breakfast plate. Confusing discussion of where to next, till we settled upon returning to Faraz’s shop hoping a cash bribe would settle his worrisome soul. Other patrons stroll his shop as Guin and Norman gather a few items to purchase. Once the patrons thin, they approach the counter to barter hoping to relax the merchant. Finally an extra bag of British pounds to sweeten the deal, “We were hoping you could tell us about those items you acquired for Mr. Carlyle all those years ago.” At least Faraz wasn’t skittish as the last time, “No, no. Not here. We can discuss more away from here. Noontime at the bazaar; the El Husen mosque.” Near the appointed time, Guin and Norman approach the mosque as the others try to be inconspicuous on watch; Yoseph searching for a back door. Faraz is late. But he arrives directing the two to a side entrance more appropriate for foreigners…especially women...

Entry 9 - Cairo: Ritual beneath the pyramid, Yosef's demise, to El-Wasta to meet Nyiti

As Yosef and Norman try to blend in with the cultist procession descending below the Sphinx, Rene and James have found another entrance. With Guin’s blessing (in the form of cast ‘StoneSkin’ spell), she stays behind as they descend a steep incline into the darkness. Flashlight beams barely cut thu the darkness as they test junctions…left leads to distant chuckling sounds encouraging them to turn around…right offers a faint breeze till a gust of wind has James gagging at the putrid smell of rotting bodies. They cover their noses as they forge further. Right, left, backtrack, till they find current footprints that take them to wide stairs where they find Norman crouched. “Where’s Josef?” Norman points to the 400x500ft expanse before them, “He snuck in there.” Before them 800+ cultists sway to the chants of their leader.
